A year in Citymapper
We made it, folks! It’s been another fantastic trip around the sun. ๐๐ Thanks for being part of our journey in 2022.
Here are some of our highlights of the year.
Made public transport great (as always)
Our data and routing teams did everything from adding new transit lines within our cities to fixing countless network changes!
Here are some of our favourite projects of the year:
We welcomed several new metro lines around the world by making them available in the app ahead of their opening. ๐ฎ This helped users understand how the new lines will impact their future travels:
- Stage 3 of the Thomson East Coast Line in Singapore
- The M4 in Milan
- London's Elizabeth Line, which has to be our pick of the year (and possibly the decade). ๐ Can’t wait for Phase 3 in Spring 2023!
We managed 30% more strikes globally this year – a strike every 3 days!
We help to anticipate the disruptions ahead of the strikes and keep our data as up-to-date as possible, so that users get strike-safe journey options as soon as possible.
We also see more of our users turn to bikes, scooters and mopeds when public transport is disrupted. This year we added 40 unique brands to the app, making it a total of over 218 brands of scooters, bikes, mopeds and car hire in all our cities!
New Routing Powers ๐ฆพ
โฟ Step-free and wheelchair-accessible routes were added to 7 cities this year, making it 14 cities worldwide. Step-free routes let anyone get from A to B avoiding stairs and using only stations that have lifts and ramps. Also handy when you’re carrying around ๐งณ luggage or ๐ถ strollers! Step-free routes are always free to use for all users.
We agree, Jan! ๐๐ฒ Multimodal routing power was also boosted in 2022, combining public transport with personal cycle to provide the most efficient journey possible ๐ค
Last but not least, we launched the โ๏ธ Walk Less routing power to help you avoid rain, heat, or humidity. Very handy when you want to get on transport ASAP, with ALWAP (as little walking as possible) ๐
Lock Screen Navigation on iOS
Lock Screen Navigation allows you to follow the progress of your GO trips and get step-by-step guidance without unlocking your iPhone.
It is designed specifically for public transport, giving you the information you need, when you need it. Live Activities also appear in the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, so you can track your trip as you use other apps.

Citymapper for developers and businesses
We extended our SDK and API products to the developer community via our self serve portal this year. Now anyone can integrate our best-of-class directions and navigation to their product:

- Global coverage: Help your users navigate anywhere on Earth ๐๐
